Austin Theory had an all-time bad run with WWE’s Money in the Bank contract back in 2022 when everyone knew there was no way he was going to beat Tribal Chief Roman Reigns for the world title. So he made the very lame choice in kayfabe to instead challenge Seth Rollins for the United States title…and he still lost. Austin’s booking fits my definition of the word “buried,” though your mileage may vary.
Theory defended WWE’s booking at the time, but it’s a whole new world out here now that Vince McMahon
is thankfully gone from pro wrestling. With that in mind, during an interview this week on YouTube douchebag Logan Paul’s Impaulsive podcast, Theory agreed with the phrasing that he “got robbed” with the way his run with the Money in the Bank briefcase came to an end.
Here are his thoughts on it now, where he goes in on Roman Reigns a little bit:
“Yes [I got robbed].
I will say, I’m gonna go and run the play, always, if we really need it to be this way. I think for me I just felt like, even with the moment I had with Roman [at Barclays Center] and he hit me with the, ‘Your daddy’s not here anymore’. In that moment I wanted to say the same thing to him, you know? ‘Cause in a way, it’s like he’s a Vince guy as well. Not in a way, he was.
But I felt like, yeah, there could have been a moment. I knew I wasn’t gonna get the title off Roman. But even just building it to seem like, ‘Oh, here we go,’ and then I could lose to him, whatever. But just give it more of a payoff.
‘Cause it felt cool, man. I did a lot of cool things with it. And I still think it’s funny how I have it in my office hanging, and it’s real dented. And I love when people see it and they’re like, bro, you murdered people with that, huh? I’m like no, Brock Lesnar murdered me with it, and it sucked.”
Do you agree that WWE robbed Austin Theory with the bad booking of his Money in the Bank contract in 2022? Let me know in the comments below, Cagesiders.
