The Orioles are relying on the bullpen, including the just-promoted Carson Ragsdale, to avoid a sweep at the hands of the first-place Blue Jays. Albert Suárez will start and Ragsdale is expected to make his major league debut at some point. In five starts with the Tides after being claimed from the Giants, Ragsdale has gone between 3-5 innings per game.
Shane Bieber will start for the Blue Jays, his fifth start of the year. He has been solid at times so far, but as his 4.30 ERA suggests, he has hit
some speed bumps in his return from Tommy John surgery.
The lineup looks pretty good for a Sunday. Samuel Basallo gets a break from catching but will stay in the lineup as DH. Dylan Beavers remains in the two-hole for a second straight game. He didn’t get a hit yesterday but did take three walks. In 23 games, Beavers has walked 20 times. He’s reached base in 11 straight games with 9 hits and 12 walks in that stretch.
The four runs that the Orioles scored in their loss yesterday is their most in a game since the previous Saturday. If they want to continue their strong September run, that needs to change.
The Ravens play today at 1:00, at home vs the Browns. If you’re tuning in to that, feel free to chat both Orioles and Ravens in here today.
