There will not be a contract dispute between the Pittsburgh Steelers and their star defensive tackle this year.
The Steelers and Cam Heyward have agreed to a new extension, according to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. It’s a two-year deal worth $32.25 million. Dulac reported that the entire first year is fully guaranteed. The deal creates $5.5 million in cap space this offseason.
Heyward signed a two-year, $29 million extension in September of 2024 that kept him under team control through
the 2026 campaign. Prior to last season, Heyward desired a new contract. The Steelers rarely negotiate with players if they have two years remaining on their deal, creating a standoff between the two sides.
Heyward didn’t participate in all camp activities in Latrobe while “holding in” for a revised contract. The two sides agreed to a sweetener in Heyward’s contract that added $3 million in incentives prior to week one.
The seven-time Pro Bowl and four-time All-Pro selection earned Second-Team All-Pro honors in 2025. Heyward recorded 78 tackles, nine tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, six passes defended, and one forced fumble in 17 games.
