The rumors have been out that other NFL teams may have wanted Ty Simpson, ultimately leading to the Los Angeles Rams taking him at pick 13 while they had their chance. Did the Rams overpay? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that.
The Simpson news continues to be talked about, discussed and it will be studied as it could make Sean McVay and Les Snead look like geniuses, and it could be a mistake. Other general managers, coaches and fans want to see how this plays out.
How big of a success
or mistake the Simpson picks ends up being for L.A. will be fascinating to watch. A minor setback? The best pick of the 2026 class? An overpay? Maybe Simpson is just a great backup in the league for years to come. We don’t know.
The NFL Draft may be done, but that doesn’t mean we can’t keep talking about the NFL Draft. The biggest news since that draft has still been the selection of Simpson. It is what it is.

Los Angeles Rams May Have Drafted Ty Simpson Early To Keep Him Away From Rivals (sportsnaut)
“According to The Athletic‘s Rams insider Nate Atkins, Los Angeles may have struck so early because they were worried about their NFC West rival, the Arizona Cardinals, drafting him first. The Cardinals held the 34th overall pick in the second round, but pre-draft speculation suggested they could try trading up into the end of the first round to secure a fifth-year option on Simpson’s rookie contract.“
Mike LaFleur knew ‘Mr. Grumpy’ and the Rams ‘always really liked’ Ty Simpson (ramswire)
“I was surprised at Mr. Grumpy that night because I know how excited he is about that quarterback. He always really liked that quarterback,” LaFleur said of McVay on the “Rich Eisen Show” Tuesday.
Although the coaching staff didn’t get into draft mode until after the season, they did begin looking at prospects while he was still there. And he says, “there was a lot of love for Ty Sipson in that building.”
One simple fix could end Rams’ post-draft QB drama, elate Matthew Stafford (usatoday)
“The approach of planning for the future is wonderful and all, but I don’t think Ty Simpson is anything special. There’s a Ty Simpson every year (in the draft),” former New York Giants vice president of player personnel Marc Ross, now an NFL Network analyst, told USA TODAY Sports. “His track record, with the lack of starts, his size – there’s nothing really about him (to like).
“It’s just odd in all kinds of ways. … And there wasn’t a big market for teams getting Ty Simpson, especially at 13. Wow. That was insane to me.”
Rams reveal stance on A.J. Brown trade after NFL Draft (sportingnews)
“According to the Athletic’s Nate Atkins, the Rams have made their stance clear on executing a deal for Brown closer to June. 1.
“Los Angeles is not expected to target Philadelphia Eagles star wide receiver A.J. Brown despite earlier trade talks,” Atkins wrote Wednesday.
The Rams’ stance on a potential trade for Brown makes perfect sense. Unlike the Patriots, the Rams boast a high-caliber receiving core that should undoubtedly receive a top-10 ranking heading into the new season (Davante Adams and Puka Nacua headline the Rams’ WR room).“
Random Ramsdom Fandom:
“Big takeaways for me…
The rams got their QB of future.
The selection of Klare leads me to believe that we intend to continue using 12 & 13 personnel at an above avg rate.
The use of our top 2 selections tells me that McSnead is either comfortable with the rest of the roster as it stands or is comfortable with their ability to improve it between now and the start of the season.
After further review…I really like the OT they drafted. Not as long as most prefer at the position but he just performed last year. Reminds me of McClendon in that way but McClendon was young and raw when he came out and Trost is more of a finished product.“ -JustAFleshWound
