After a hard fought split in a four game series against the Phillies, the Nationals welcome another NL East heavyweight. This time they take on the Mets. After sweeping the Nats in June, the Mets have been on a bit of a tail spin since, going from the best team in baseball to fighting for their playoff lives.
After the top two hitters, the Nationals have gone with a righty heavy lineup against Mets southpaw David Peterson. That means Luis Garcia Jr., Daylen Lile and Robert Hassell will all be on the bench.
Andres Chaparro will get his first start since being recalled from AAA. Jake Irvin will look to right the ship tonight against a solid Mets lineup.
The Mets lineup has some massive names at the top. Francisco Lindor and Juan Soto will be the top two. Lindor is coming off a massive week. Pete Alonso is also in the middle of that lineup. With Francisco Alvarez going down, Luis Torrens will be the Mets backstop. Long time Oriole Cedric Mullins will play center field for them. The reliable David Peterson will start for the Mets.

If the Nats continue to battle like they have lately, the Mets will have their hands full. Despite back to back wins, the Mets have still been really struggling the past couple months. The Nats can’t allow this to be a “get right” series for the Mets. Hopefully they will be up for the fight. Feel free to comment your Nats related thoughts down below.
