Once again, the Seattle Seahawks will be without starting quarterback Sam Darnold before they play the Arizona Cardinals.
Back in Week 2, Darnold missed Seattle’s 31-7 win over Arizona with a glute injury. Ahead of their Week 9 rematch at Lumen Field, Darnold will once again be out, but with a new set of injuries. Mike Macdonald told reporters on Wednesday that Darnold is “week-to-week” with a quad injury and he also hurt his ribs earlier in Monday night’s loss to the Chicago Bears.
Lock, of course, replaced Darnold in the Week 1 win over the New England Patriots. Over his (in effect) two full games, he’s 35/48 for 422 yards and 4 touchdowns without a turnover. All of his touchdowns were thrown to Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
While there have been calls for Lock to be the starter over the struggling Darnold during Seattle’s recent 2-4 stretch, Lock himself missed the last two games with a right elbow injury. Well, he’s back in action against a team he comfortably took apart less than two months ago.
Just a few days ago, this QB matchup was Sam Darnold vs. Jacoby Brissett. Now it’s Drew Lock (again) vs. Gardner Minshew II, who’s replacing the benched and otherwise ineffective Brissett.
