For the first time in a while, Manchester United will have a very deep field of Player of the Month candidates.
Manchester United’s October Player of the Month voting opened to fans on the club website
this week, and fans can vote here for their preferred recipient.
Goalkeeper Senne Lammens, defender Matthijs De Ligt, and forwards Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo all made the cut for the club award, and all are deserving after the team’s best month in more than a year.
United have three wins in a row, and four wins in their last five, after turning things around in Premier League action. Lammens made his debut and has become an instant hero just for playing safe goalkeeping and claiming crosses.
The defensive improvement is thanks to the defense as well, and De Ligt has grown into his role well over the course of the season.
The new signings, Cunha and Mbeumo, have both made their mark by scoring this month, and combined for three of the four goals in a win over Brighton & Hove Albion at the weekend. Mbeumo has been particularly lethal, scoring the opening goal against Liverpool and two goals to finish off the Seagulls in the second half.
Cunha may have only scored his first goal for the Reds last weekend, but he has been a positive presence. He does need to produce more, but his creativity on the ball and when linking up with teammates is already apparent.
If anyone is seen as being left out, it is probably Casemiro. The Brazilian has remained an important part of United’s midfield, and his recovery of possession and work at the base of the attack have been a big reason why United have been able to sustain attacks and create more chances during their run of good form.
