Harry Kane is a unique specimen among strikers. Unlike peers such as Erling Haaland, he is not just a goalscorer, he does a little bit of everything on the pitch. Bayern Munich have leveraged this special quality to achieve new heights this season, with Kane at the center of the show. So how does the man himself feel about his role?
“I know I’m not just a goal-scorer,” Kane told AFP (via @iMiaSanMia). “I can impact the team with passing, one-on-one situations, and taking the pressure off the team.
This is the most I’ve enjoyed my football because I’m just involved more.”
“I love the way we play,” he added. “A really aggressive style, no fear. I love tackling, I love helping the team out and blocking shots and all that part of it as well.”
“Obviously, I’m going to be judged on goals, but I think, especially this season, people will appreciate some of the other stuff I do as well.”
There are already those who consider Kane the best player in the world at the moment. Looking at his tallies of goals and assists, you’d be well within your rights to make that judgement. But fans of FC Bayern, who watch Kane every week, know that he is worth so much more. He’s a box-to-box striker, a deep lying forward, an offensive No. 6, and so much more. Honestly the only position he doesn’t play is goalkeeper.
With Kane in the form that he is in, Vincent Kompany will hope that the England captain stays healthy for the rest of the season. If he does, then there’s a good chance that FC Bayern could go far in the Champions League this year.
