With the 204th pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, the Los Angeles Chargers select offensive tackle/guard Alex Harkey out of the University of Oregon.
The 6’5, 313-pound Harkey started at right tackle for the Ducks in 2025 after a lengthy journey through college football. From 2020-21, Harkey played a Tyler Junior College where he began as a tight end before switch to tackle in 2021. He then transferred to Colorado where he spent the 2022 season as a reserve.
In 2023,
Harkey moved on to Texas State. He spent his first of two seasons there as a backup before earning a starting job in 2024, beginning all 12 games and earning Third-Team All-Sun Belt honors. In his final year of eligibility, Harkey transferred to Oregon and started all 14 games en route to being named Honorable Mention All-Big Ten.
Harkey is projected to move inside to guard at the never level due to his lack of ideal length. As a guard, he possesses satisfactory size and movement skills that should fit well in Mile McDaniel’s offense, although he may struggle against power in pass protection and is inconsistent finding his proper landmarks when working up to the second level. He’s an older prospect who played six years of college football and will serve as needed support up front with the potential to fill in at multiple spots.
