On Tuesday, Texas A&M defensive end Cashius Howell was named a finalist for the Lombardi Award. The award honors the top lineman in college football (offense or defense) and is also eligible for linebackers.
Alongside Howell are Texas Tech defenders David Bailey (DE) and Jacob Rodriguez (LB), and Alabama offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor.
Howell has been a menace on the Aggie defense this season, racking up 38 pressures (per PFF), 11.5 sacks, and 12.5 TFLs. In A&M’s 27-point comeback last weekend, he recorded a sack and batted down three passes to help the Aggies secure the victory.
If selected, Howell would be the first Aggie to win the award since Dat Nguyen in 1998 (which was also the last time an Aggie was a finalist for the award).
