The Orlando Magic have fired head coach Jamahl Mosley, the organization announced on Monday.
Mosley spent the past five seasons in Orlando and led the franchise to playoff appearances in each of the last three seasons. However, Orlando never made it out of the first round under Mosley. Most recently, the eighth-seeded Magic were eliminated by the first-seeded Detroit Pistons on Sunday in Game 7 of their first-round series. Orlando had held a 3-1 lead over Detroit earlier in the series.
The Magic had
entered this past season with much higher expectations than the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference. In a big trade last summer, Orlando moved four first-round picks as part of a package to acquire sharpshooting guard Desmond Bane from the Memphis Grizzlies.
Magic president Jeff Weltman is set to lead the team’s search for the next head coach.
Orlando joins the Portland Trail Blazers, New Orleans Pelicans and Chicago Bulls as NBA teams currently searching for their next head coach.
