Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany can look over at Konrad Laimer, Alphonso Davies, and Josip Stanišić, the manager feels good about using any two of those three players in just about any situation.
“We speak at least once a week among the coaching staff whether Josip or Konrad are better on the left or the right. They do different things. And Alphonso Davies is another type of player. But when I’m asked who’s better on the left or the right, it’s almost impossible to answer. If one of them
is needed on the left or the right, it’s never a problem. It’s a luxury if anything. We’re very well equipped in that area,” Kompany said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Interestingly, Kompany did not name Hiroki Itō or Raphaël Guerreiro as being in the mix — maybe establishing a theory some fans have had, stating that the club has moved on from those two players as options to play left-back.
Regardless, Laimer, Davies, and Stanišić have all been good this season and now it seems like Kompany could be on the verge have the full optionality to use whoever he likes in a given moment because of how solid each player has been.
