After a rough and tumble several weeks for Bayern Munich, things are looking on the up again.
Bayern entered the Champions League knockout stages on just slightly less even footing than it had enjoyed for most of its Hinrunde but worked out any cobwebs it might have had since the January restart with a 6-1 shellacking of Atalanta Bergamo — in their own house.
“It doesn’t get much better. We would’ve preferred to have kept the clean sheet, but it’s a great result and a great performance,” Bayern midfielder
Aleksandar Pavlović shared after the match in comments captured by FCBayern.com. We knew what awaited us and took the game to them. Really, we did everything brilliantly in attack and defense tonight. I think that’s why the result was so convincing.”
After a few misplaced passes early, Bayern quickly got down to business and showed an attacking intent and ferocity that did not let up. The Bavarians were determined to carry a first leg advantage back to Munich…and boy, did they ever.
