Sure, Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen might have liked an easier pathway to the Champions League crown, but in his eyes, you have to beat all the same teams anyway, so there is no point in waiting.
If the Bavarians get by Atalanta, they would face the winner of Manchester City vs. Real Madrid…in the UCL quarterfinals.
“Nobody would believe me if I said we’re happy we were drawn in the left side. It’s obvious that the right side is easier. But on the other hand, it might not be that bad to face
the biggest teams and play tough games. For now we have to focus on Atalanta. We saw against Dortmund that we have to take Atalanta seriously. They’ve already won the Europa League against Leverkusen, so they’re not a no-name. The focus is on Atalanta, then we’ll see,” Dreesen said during an appearance on Bild Live (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Dreesen’s attitude is the only one you can have in this scenario. No doubt, Bayern Munich’s mantra for the Champions League will be “survive and advance” — and if they can do that for both the Atalanta tie and against the winner of Real Madrid vs. Manchester City, they will be in a prime position to hoist the trophy once again.
