FC Barcelona are looking for 65 million euro to part with Ferran Torres, who became a star after scoring in the World Cup Final. Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly had an initial bid worth €40 million rejected by Barça.
The Catalans reportedly do not want to sell a forward until they have signed one themselves, especially after Robert Lewandowski’s departure. However, due to market realities, they may feel forced to.
In that situation, though, the Blaugrana are looking for a considerable fee despite
Torres only having one year left in his deal. At the moment, strikers are selling for elevated prices. That’s both a curse and a blessing for Barça, who are looking to both sell and buy a number nine.
PSG are unwilling to go that high, but they have reportedly agreed to raise their bid to around 55 million. That may tempt Barcelona to shake hands on what would be a good sale economically for the club.
Despite the fact Barcelona bought Ferran for 55 million plus add-ons, it would be good money for a player on the last year of his contract who has been inconsistent despite having moments of brilliance.
The benefit is that his initial transfer fee has been amortized — that is they have accounted for most of it — and the incoming fee would be good on the balance sheet.
Torres is due back on Wednesday after vacations. The ideal situation for the player, who reportedly is set on leaving, is to travel to France for a medical before then. However, the problem for his current club is that they have had a hard time finding a good forward for a reasonable fee. It will be even harder to try to find two.
