Santa Clara was the biggest mover in this week’s edition of the Other Top 25. The Broncos catapulted from No. 18 to sixth. They are 11-3 on the season and have won five straight games. Every single one
of their wins was by double figures.
Loree Payne’s team lost to undefeated Arizona St. by just five points back in November. It opened WCC play with a 68-46 win over San Diego.
Santa Clara is 53rd in the NET and 56th in BartTorvik. The Broncos are 40th in adjusted offensive efficiency, per Torvik. They are tied for ninth nationally by giving up just 9.9 turnovers per game and are 12th in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.58).
While the top four spots remained in order from last week, Rhode Island moved up one spot to five. James Madison elevated three places to seventh. Davidson dropped from five to eight. Troy is right behind in ninth, and Colorado St. rounded out the top 10.
Four teams joined the top 25 this week: UNLV at 18, Arkansas St. at 22, Montana St. at 23 and Belmont at 24.
The Lady Rebels have strong computer numbers (76th in Torvik and 97th in the NET) despite their 7-5 record. They have wins over DePaul, Washington St., Creighton and New Mexico. They have dropped games to Baylor, Arizona St., Cincinnati and Montana St.
The Red Wolves are 11-3 and capped off the week with an 81-72 win at in-state rival Arkansas. Destinee Rogers’ group has won nine straight games. It has also beaten Houston.
The Bobcats are 7-4 on the season and tout wins over UNLV, Colorado and Hawaii.
The Bruins have played one of the toughest schedules of anyone in the country. Half of their 12 games have come against teams who were receiving votes in either the AP or coaches polls. They’ve taken on Oklahoma, Tennessee, Ohio St., Princeton, Kentucky and Duke.
