Oct 15 (Field Level Media) - Kristaps Porzingis returned to the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday but will remain sidelined indefinitely due to a health issue, the team announced Wednesday.
The veteran big man also released a statement on social media Wednesday, a day after he rejoined the team and had a meeting with Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. and medical director Rick Celebrini.
"Hello people, I'm working with doctors and experts to figure out how to be fully back
to good health asap," he wrote. "Honestly, I'm getting better and better. I just have to stay patient, and I believe I'll be feeling great again soon.
"It has definitely been frustrating dealing with some health stuff that you can't exactly pinpoint, on top of injuries throughout my career, so it has added up for sure, but we will get through it. (flexed biceps emoji)
"Health is wealth. Thank you for all the support. (praying hands emoji)"
Shortly thereafter, Porzingis posted a follow-up note: "I appreciate all the internet doctors trying to diagnose and help, but I'm in the best hands. So everyone can relax now ... and I don't have hiv or aids."
The team issued a statement saying that the discussions between Porzingis, Dunleavy and Celebrini would remain private.
Porzingis was away from the team for training camp and the start of the preseason. The Warriors stated that it remains unclear when he might be ready to practice or play in games.
Porzingis said in 2025 that he was diagnosed with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), a nervous system disorder that can affect heart rate and blood flow. It is unclear whether the condition is related to his latest absence.
The 31-year-old Latvian played in only 32 games (23 starts) last season between the Hawks and the Warriors. He was acquired by Golden State in a February trade that sent Buddy Hield and Jonathan Kuminga to Atlanta.
He missed more regular-season games for Golden State (16) than he played (15), though he started the team's two play-in games. He put up 20 points, five rebounds and five assists in a win over the Los Angeles Clippers, then logged 11 points, one rebound and no assist in a loss to the Phoenix Suns.
In the 2025-26 regular season, Porzingis averaged 16.7 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists. His career averages are 19.5, 7.6 and 1.9, respectively.
An All-Star in 2017-18, Porzingis has played for the New York Knicks (2015-16 to 2017-18), Dallas Mavericks (2019-20 to 2021-22), Washington Wizards (2021-22 to 2022-23), Boston Celtics (2023-24 to 2024-25), Atlanta (2025-26) and Golden State (2025-26). He helped Boston win the NBA championship in 2023-24.
