Andorran qualifier Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva advanced to her third career WTA Tour quarterfinal by outlasting eighth-seeded Magda Linette of Poland 5-7, 7-6 (5), 7-5 on Wednesday in the Merida (Mexico) Open Akron.
The match lasted 3 hours, 20 minutes, tied for the fourth longest on the tour this year. Jimenez Kasintseva closed the victory by breaking serve in the final game, converting her third match.
Fourth-seeded Marie Bouzkova of the Czech Republic advanced out of the second round when defending
champion Emiliana Arango of Colombia retired due to a shoulder injury. Arango won the first set 6-2, then lost the second 6-1 and trailed 2-0 in the third when she halted the match.
Great Britain's Katie Boulter and Spain's Cristina Bucsa also snagged quarterfinal berths.

Russia's Oksana Selekhmeteva eliminated Kazakhstan's Kamilla Rakhimova 6-2, 7-5.
