New Orleans Saints star wide receiver Chris Olave will miss Sunday's season finale at the Atlanta Falcons due to a blood clot in his lung.
The Saints confirmed the 25-year-old's health situation on their website after Olave published a photo to Instagram showing himself in a hospital bed.
"Thank you God for everything!" Olave wrote. "Right where I need to be, life is full of unexpected twists and turns and I'm grateful to experience it. Chin up, chest out and keep it pushin. I don't want ya sympathy,
just talk to God for me. Bounce back otw (on the way)!"
Saints head coach Kellen Moore confirmed the team's medical staff was working with Olave to address his illness. The receiver missed Wednesday's practice as well as Thursday's.
"I think it's just work with our medical staff and Dr. (John) Amoss and going through that process with those guys, and then them just going through their procedure as far as identifying what could be the best solution for Chris," Moore said. "I think the main outlook in this thing is these guys are awesome, they get ahead of things. Fortunate for Chris that they were able to get ahead of this and identify something and make the necessary steps to build a plan moving forward."
Multiple reports Thursday said Olave was expected to make a full recovery and had an optimistic outlook for the long term.
The Saints (6-10) selected Olave with the 11th overall pick of the 2022 NFL Draft.
He reached career highs this season for receptions (100), yards (1,163) and touchdowns (nine).
