Angel City FC midfielder Hina Sugita agreed to a three-year contract extension on Tuesday that spans through the 2029 season.
Financial terms were not disclosed for Sugita, who was acquired from the Portland
Thorns on Sept. 30 in exchange for defender M.A. Vignola and $600,000 in intra-league transfer funds.
"Hina is a world class talent and exactly the caliber of player and person we want at our club," said Mark Parsons, Angel City's sporting director. "She has fit in immediately from the moment she arrived and we know that she will continue to contribute to our goals of competing for trophies."
Sugita, 28, had been with the Thorns since 2022 and racked up 13 goals and 14 assists in league play (82 appearances, 71 starts). She had three assists for Portland this season before playing in four matches with Angel City.
"I've always tried to give my very best to soccer, and I'm so happy to have found a team that gives me the feeling that there is so much more to come," Sugita. said "I am so grateful to all my teammates at Angel City who bring so much joy and excitement to every match. I will keep working hard every day to give back to my fans and supporters, and help Angel City to reach new heights."
Internationally, she has 51 caps with the Japanese Women's National Team and made one Olympic (2020) and two Women's World Cup (2019, 2023) appearances for Japan.
