Bill Self, the head coach of the Kansas Jayhawks, has officially announced Tony Bland as a member of the coaching staff. Bland, who has a notable history in collegiate basketball, played for teams that won 84 games and advanced to three NCAA Tournaments and the NIT during his four seasons. He scored 1,368 points, grabbed 331 rebounds, and dished out 319 assists in 127 collegiate games, with 95 starts. Bland began his college career at Syracuse, advancing to the NCAA Tournament each season. He was the first player in the Mountain West Conference to rank among the league’s top 10 players in scoring and assists and top 20 in rebounding. Bland was a two-time Mountain West All-Conference selection and was invited to the Indiana Pacers’ training camp following his college career. He also played in the United States Basketball League, earning the league’s Rookie of the Year award.
