What's Happening?
See Her Run, a Jersey-based running group for teenage girls, is expanding its program to include younger participants. Initially launched in September 2024 for girls in school years 10 to 13, the group is now welcoming year nine girls into its main program. The initiative provides a safe and supportive environment for young girls to run together twice a week, fostering confidence and fitness. The group has over 40 members and 12 trained volunteers. In addition to expanding its main program, See Her Run is launching a new course called 'She Starts Here,' designed for non-runners. This course will guide participants from zero to running 3k by October half term.
Why It's Important?
The expansion of See Her Run's program is significant as it promotes physical activity and community engagement among teenage girls. By providing a supportive environment, the group helps participants build confidence and develop healthy habits. The inclusion of younger girls and non-runners broadens the program's reach, encouraging more young people to participate in physical activities. This initiative can have positive impacts on the participants' physical and mental health, as regular exercise is known to improve mood and overall well-being. Additionally, the program supports the development of social skills and teamwork, as participants run together and support each other.
What's Next?
With the expansion of its program, See Her Run is likely to see an increase in membership and participation. The success of the initiative may inspire similar programs in other regions, promoting physical activity among young people. As the 'She Starts Here' course progresses, participants will gain the skills and confidence needed to join regular weekly runs, potentially leading to long-term engagement with the group. The organizers may continue to develop new programs and activities to keep participants motivated and engaged, further enhancing the group's impact on the community.
