New Delhi: Sanju Samson had an emotional reunion with his family and expressed gratitude towards his parents as he returned to his home in Trivandrum, Kerala, after India's T20 World Cup triumph. Samson played
an instrumental role in India's memorable victory with three back-to-back half-centuries in their last three games of the tournament, including the final against New Zealand.
Despite playing only five matches in the competition, Samson, who was not part of India's playing XI at the start of the tournament, won the Player of the Tournament award for his batting heroics. Samson shared a video on Instagram, where he was seen embracing his parents, his brother and his manager as he had an emotional reunion with his loved ones at home.
Samson thanked his parents for shaping his career as a sportsman and credited his brother for supporting him through highs and lows over the years. He also had a special mention for his manager, calling him his younger brother. Samson's emotional post highlighted his close bond with his family members and their undeniable support, which helped him in his journey as a cricketer.
"Thank you so very much to my Achan and Amma for allowing me and teaching me to be a sportsman. Loving and respecting this game has blessed me with a special life. And thanks again to my brother Saly for being there with me, backing me from the first time ever I faced a ball. And to our younger brother, Mr Nahaji Yen friend pole yar Machaaa !!!," Samson wrote in his post.

Samson scripted a fairytale redemption in the T20 World Cup 2026. From not being considered in the playing XI at the start of the tournament to winning the Player of the Tournament award at the end of it, Samson showcased that hard work and dedication pay off. The right-hander had played only one game in the tournament until India's humiliating 76-run defeat against South Africa in their Super 8 opener.
As India were handed a reality check by the Proteas, the team management scrambled to make changes, bringing Samson back at the top with misfiring Abhishek Sharma. Samson grabbed his chances by both hands and went on to smash a match-winning 97 in India's must-win Super 8 match against West Indies to propel the hosts into the semifinals.
Samson scored 89 apiece in the semifinal and the final to play a key role in India's triumph. He finished the tournament with an impressive 321 runs in just 5 innings at an astounding average of 80.25 and a strike close to 200. He finished as the highest run-getter for India in the tournament and was awarded the Player of the Tournament award.
