Rohit Sharma must break these records if he wishes to make a statement against those who are trying to show him the exit door from ODIs
There’s not an iota
of doubt that the present heads in BCCI and the Indian team have little interest in keeping Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the ODI team. While no official has spoken, the transition in the team structure, including the change in captaincy, paints a clear picture that the present management wants a completely young team for the 2027 ICC World Cup. However, pressure from fans and pundits has got Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli onto the team for the Australia series. Therefore, it is essential that the Indian veterans perform extremely well and make a statement.
Speaking about Rohit Sharma, the veteran is inches away from breaking as many as five records during the three-match ODI series. Ahead of the first match, take a look at those records waiting to be shattered.

In cricket history, only 10 players have appeared in more than 500 international matches across formats. Rohit Sharma has played 499 matches, and on October 19, when he plays the first game against Australia, he will enter the elite 500-match club. Sharma played 67 Test matches and 159 T20 games, whereas his ODI count is ticking at 273, and hopefully, a few more to go.

Rohit Sharma is also in line to become the highest six-hitter in ODI cricket history. At present, he is second on the chart with 344 sixes, behind Shahid Afridi’s 351. To surpass the record, Sharma must hit eight sixes in a three-match ODI series to break the record.

Sachin Tendulkar, during his career, scored 20 international centuries against Australia – 11 in Tests and 9 in ODIs. Currently, Rohit Sharma has seven ODI centuries against the Aussies, and he needs only two to surpass Tendulkar’s record. Given his batting prowess, surpassing Tendulkar is doable.

No Indian batter has ever scored 1,000 ODI runs against Australia on their soil. Rohit Sharma is only 10 runs away from this legendary record, and therefore, we expect this record to be shattered.

Last but not least, Rohit Sharma holds the record for scoring the highest ODI score by an Indian against the Aussies in Australia. In 2016, he recorded a score of 171 runs at the WACA. The Hitman has the opportunity to surpass his own record.
