Imran Tahir, the oldest player
Imrah Tahir is the oldest player in IPL history to be part of an IPL-winning squad. In 2021, when Chennai Super Kings lifted the title, Tahir was 41 years and 328 days old in March during the squad stage. The team eventually won the trophy at the end of the season, and the record went in Tahir’s name.

From 2014 until Tahir’s last match in 2021, he played 59 IPL games, picking 82 wickets with a best figure of 4/12 and an average of 20.77, coupled with an economy of 7.76. He also scripted three four-wicket hauls during his stay in the IPL.
Dhoni, the oldest captain
Despite Dhoni still playing in the IPL at 44, he sits below Tahir as the oldest player to win the IPL. However, Dhoni was the oldest IPL captain to win the title at 41 years and 326 days when he guided the team to the trophy in 2023.

Since 2008, Mahendra Singh Dhoni has scored 5,439 runs at an average of 38.30 and 137.45 in 278 matches. He also had the highest number of dismissals as a wicket keeper, i.e., 155 catches and 46 stumpings. Not to forget, Dhoni also holds the record for scoring 2,900 runs in the death overs alone.

As of now, only one former player sits above Mahendra Singh Dhoni in terms of being the oldest in the tournament’s history. The player is Brad Hogg, who retired as the oldest IPL player at 45 years and 92 days. He played his last IPL game for the Kolkata Knight Riders on May 8, 2016, and his best season was 2015, when he took 9 wickets in 6 matches.
One more year of IPL action as a player, and Mahendra Singh Dhoni will surpass Hogg’s record.
