In the 10th match of the Women’s World Cup 2025 between South Africa and Indiaat the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, the latter saw themselves in huge trouble after losing six batters at a score of 102 in 26 overs. In the crunch situation, wicket-keeper Richa Ghosh held her nerves and built a crucial 51-run stand with Amanjot Kaur for the seventh wicket. The partnership between the two came in 84 balls. Amanjot fell against Chloe Tyron in the 40th over but Richa and Sneh Rana didn’t lose hope and displayed fighting spirit. Both stood in the middle until the 48.5 overs and stitched an 88-run stand for the ninth wicket in just 53 deliveries.
Rana chipped in with her brisk 33 off 24 while Ghosh also came heavily on the Protea side’s bowling attack and
accumulated 94 runs in 77 balls. Richa's innings was studded with 15 boundaries (11 fours and four sixes). In the final over, she looked to play a massive stroke against pacer Nadine de Klerk but got caught at the hands of Sune Luss. Her batting effort was appreciated by spectators and her teammates.
India delivered a target of 252 runs to South Africa
Riding on Ghosh’s sensational performance, India posted a fine total of 251 in 49.5 overs. Batting first after losing the toss, India’s batting attack put up a lackluster show. The hosts’ mainstay batters Harleen Deol, Jemimah Rodrigues, Harmanpreet Kaur, and Deepti Sharma departed on single-digit scores.
Pratika Rawal and Smriti Mandhana contributed with 37 (56) and 23 (32) respectively. Mandhana was expected to deliver an effective batting show but her bat remained quiet in this game as well. However, after putting up a decent total on the board, India bowlers will look to step up and stop South Africa from chasing down the target.
