Australia have announced their squad for the upcoming series against Pakistan. The notable misses are Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewoodand Tim David who have been rested and given extra time to build up their fitness ahead of the T20 World Cup while Mitch Marsh is set to captain the side. They have called up pacers Mahli Beardman and all-rounder Jack Edwards into the squad. These two players have been named in the squad following their impressive Big Bash League campaigns. Rest of the squad are pretty much those that are set to travel for the World Cup. Steve Smith despite his rich form in the BBL fails to get a chance in the squad.
“The series is a great opportunity for those on the brink of selection and some young players we rate highly (to gain)
valuable experience with the World Cup group in Pakistan,” George Bailey said speaking about the selections. He also added that some are already experienced international players, along with Mahli Beardman who has been with the group a number of times and Jack Edwards, who joined for the last one-day match against India in Sydney last year.
Australia will play three T20Is against Pakistan from January 29 to February 1 in Lahore. The team will begin its T20 World Cup campaign on February 11 against Ireland in Colombo. They will be keen to do well and hope all their players are fit for the World Cup
