Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), theIndian Premier League (IPL) franchise has had a season to forget in the 2025 edition of the tournament, finishing seventh in the points table and failing to qualify for the playoffs. In the 14 matches of the league stage, Rishabh Pant-led LSG could only secure six wins, losing eight matches and as a result, they bowed out of the tournament early.
Although, there were some surprising performances, but they collectively failed to make a mark. The biggest problem for LSG was inconsistent performances throughout and they will be looking to reshape ahead of IPL 2026, hoping for a stronger comeback. Although, the Lucknow-based outfit has some bright signs in Nicholas Pooran, Digvesh Rathi and a few others, they will look to get
their combination sorted for the next edition.
Let's take a look at three players that LSG might release ahead of the IPL 2026 Mini-Auction:
-
Ravi Bishnoi
LSG had higher expectations from their spinner Ravi Bishnoi when they retained him for INR 11 Crore ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction. However, the Indian spinner could not perform as per the expectations and had an underwhelming season. Bishnoi could only pick up nine wickets at an avergae of 44.55 and conceded 10.83 runs per over in 11 innings in IPL 2025.
-
William O’Rourkee
William O’Rourkee finally made his presence in the IPL when the tall New Zealander was roped in by LSG for INR 3 Crore as a replacement of injured Mayank Yadav. Although, the Kiwi quick did not have a start to remember, but his best came in match against Gujarat Titans as he turned the game in the side’s favour, registering 3/27 figures.
But in three matches, where he picked a total of six wickets at an average of 22.00 and an economy of 12.77, he continues to remain as a least preferred option for the Super Giants. Moreover, with recent stress fracture injury to the New Zealand quick, he is unlikely to be retained by the franchise as he is expected to lack considerable gametime.
-
Shahbaz Ahmed
Shahbaz Ahmed, a versatile all-rounder was bought by LSG for INR 2.4 Crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction. Despite bagging such a big sum, he did not get much gametime and featured in only three matches, where he picked one wicket and scored only nine runs. Although, he did have a decent season with his previous franchises - Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Sunrisers Hyderabad, but his struggle to deliver consistent spells might get him out of the LSG side and put him in the auction once again.
