Manchester United’s newest goalkeeper signing Senne Lammens, who hails from Belgium, hit the ground running after his inclusion in the club’s playing XI earlier this month. Following the departure of first
choice goalkeeper Andre Onana on loan to Trabzonspor due to a string of poor performances, which was also the case with Altay Bayindir, Manchester United manager had no choice but to throw the 23-year-old in deep water.
In his first three outings for Manchester United in the Premier League this October, Senne Lammens managed to not only keep a clean sheet on debut but showed his calming presence in goal, which is something the team sorely missed for quite a while. His contributions in goal were critical for the Red Devils to earn three wins on the spin in the league for the first-time in over a year since Ruben Amorin joined them after defeating Sunderland, Liverpool, and Brighton.
I'm not Schmeichel in disguise. I am just Senne Lammens trying to help the team: Senne Lammens
With that, some of the Manchester United faithfuls started to compare him with their legendary goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel, chanting, “Are you Schmeichel in disguise?” inside stadiums. When asked about it, he responded by saying, as per BBC Sport in an exclusive interview, “I don't listen to it too much during the game but I saw it afterwards. I'm not (Peter) Schmeichel in disguise. I am just Senne Lammens trying to help the team.”
“It is an amazing compliment to get but you have to be realistic. He is one of the best goalkeepers ever. I have to prove a lot more to be in the same conversation as him,” he added. In his next outing, Senne Lammens will turn up against Nottingham Forest in a Premier League clash at the City Ground on Saturday, November 1, aiming to keep up the good work in goal and play a key role in earning a clean sheet at least.
Moreover, Manchester United are currently in sixth place in the Premier League standings with 16 points to their name after playing nine matches, behind city rivals Manchester City on goal difference.
