The Indian women’s cricket team on Sunday, November 2 etched history as they lifted their maiden Women’s Cricket World Cup title, beating South Africa Women by 52 runs in the summit clash in Navi Mumbai.
After putting 298 runs on the board, courtesy a 87-run knock from Shafali Verma and key contributions from Smriti Mandhana and Deepi Sharma, the latter starred with the ball, picking a fifer in her 9.3 overs.
While one of the key moments as they defended the total was Amanjot Kaur’s catch to dismiss centurion Laura Wolvaardt and the final catch of Nadine de Klerk by Harmanpreet Kaur which helped them get crowned as the world champions in 45.3 overs. While the victory will go down in the history in Indian cricket, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced INR 51 Crore prize money for the title winners.
PCA announces cash rewards for Harmanpreet & Amanjot Kaur; coach Munish Bali to also get INR 5 Lakh
Apart from this, several state governments as well as cricket associations have also announced a reward for the players hailing from there. Among them is the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA), which has decided to honour the homebound players. The PCA has announced cash rewards for Harmanpreet Kaur and all-rounder Amanjot Kaur.
As per the announcement, Harmanpreet and Amanjot Kaur will received INR 11 Lakh each and have also extended a INR 5 Lakh reward for fielding coach Munish Bali for his crucial contribution. The PCA also confirmed that a special felicitation ceremony will be held to celebrate the trio, however, they haven’t confirmed the date. Seeing the achievements, PCA President also lauded the team.
“This World Cup victory is a moment of immense pride for the entire nation, and we at PCA are especially delighted that key members of this historic achievement hail from Punjab,” said President Amarjit Singh Mehta. “Their dedication and performance have brought great glory to our state and to Indian cricket,” he continued.
