Liverpool took on the Turkish champions Galatasaray in Champions League fixture on Tuesday night. However, against all the odds, it was Galatasaray who emerged on top of the defending champions, handing the Premier League winners 0-1 defeat, thanks to a well-taken penalty right in the middle of the goal post by Victor Osimhen. Liverpool had more of the possession but one momentary collapse by Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai gave away the penalty.
Things got worse for Liverpool as Alisson Becker had to be replaced by Mammardashvilli in the second half due to an injury. Alisson saw Victor Osimhen approaching towards the goal and setting himself up for a shot, when he came one on one with the attacker and produced a crucial save to keep his team
in the game. However, amidst all of the action, he felt pain in his leg and went down on the ground.
If my player is on the floor, I nine out of ten times fear the worst: Arne Slot
Speaking at the presser after Liverpool's defeat, Arne Slot said, “If my player is on the floor, I nine out of 10 times fear the worst – and by the worst I mean he cannot continue. That's what happened with Alisson. Normally, he will not be able to play Saturday. That's 99.9 per cent – I've already said 100 per cent, but let's make it 99.9 [although] I think it's 100." The Liverpool manager also took a dig at the Galatasaray players saying, “despite what they [Galatasaray] did 112 times, being injured and coming back on the pitch without any pain - our players don't do this."
Liverpool have a huge away clash coming up against Chelsea in the Premier League in which they will aim to bounce back from the two consecutive losses they have faced. It will be interesting to see if Alisson's absence turns out to be a big miss for Liverpool against Chelsea.
