Graham Potter, the former Chelsea and West Ham United manager, has expressed his interest in becoming the new head coach of Sweden after the sacking of Jon Dahl Tomasson on Tuesday, October 14. The decision from the Swedish federation came after a difficult beginning to their World Cup qualifying campaign, losing three out of their first four matches, including two against Kosovo apart from drawing the other contest versus Slovenia.
With that, Sweden are currently at the fourth and bottom place in Group B of the World Cup Qualifiers in the European continent with their chances of making the prestigious football event all but over. With the departure of Jon Dahl Tomasson from the coaching job after losing to Kosovo 1-0 at home on Monday, Graham
Potter has put his hat in the mix to be the next one at helm of the Swedish football team after getting sacked by West Ham United in the Premier League just last month.
The job as head coach of the Swedish national team is fantastic: Graham Potter
It is important to note that the 50-year-old Englishman has managed the Swedish club Ostersunds for seven years in the last decade. While talking to Sweden’s media company Fotbollskanalen, he said, “I'm actually in Sweden right now, in my house in Sweden. I'm between jobs and just left the Premier League. I'm open to anything, really, where I feel I can help. The job as head coach of the Swedish national team is fantastic.”
“I have feelings for Sweden. I love the country and I love Swedish football. I have a lot to be grateful for towards Swedish football. So yes, it would be a fantastic opportunity for me, obviously,” he added. With Sweden having the likes of Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyokeres at their disposal in the attacking front, their performances have been severely lacking, which is something Graham Potter has the capability to potentially improve if he joins the national team as head coach in the near future.
