They hit the woodwork and missed penalties on too many occasions and they weren’t just able to grab the opportunity that was presented to them. Amidst all the growing frustration, Iran was the immediate forced departure of the team to Tijuana due to restrictive visa regulations imposed by the host nation. FIFA failed to uphold the principle of universal accessibility and Iran became a victim of absolute political hypocrisy from the host nation.

Iran questions FIFA’s commitment to fair competition

Iran was forced to relocate its training camp from Tucson, Arizona, to Tijuana, Mexico because of travel restrictions. Sometimes, Iran entered into the U.S. for matches, arriving just 15 hours before the match and that impacted their preparatory sessions. Such late movements deprive the players from recovery time and the training sessions ahead of the important fixtures. Over 15 essential members of Iran's coaching and administrative staff, as well as several players, were denied U.S. visas.
