Indian opener Praitka Rawalfinally got her 2025 Women’s World Cup winning medal after the intervention by ICC Chairman Jay Shah. Notably, Praitka was a part of the Indian squad for the recently ended Women’s ODI
World Cup at home and also finished as second highest run scorer for India amassing 308 runs in seven matches at an average of 51.33. However, during the last league match against Bangladesh, Pratika injured her leg and was ruled out of the squad ahead of the semi-finals.
After that, Shafali Verma joined the Indian squad as a replacement and played a match-winning knock of 87 runs in the final against South Africa Women helping India Women lift their first-ever World Cup title on November 2. After the historic win, all the members of the India team received a winning medal except Pratika Rawal as she was ruled out ahead of the semi-final and wasn’t a part of the final 15-member squad by the end of the tournament. However, when the India Women’s team met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 5, Pratika was seen wearing a medal which raised speculation among fans. Some fans also thought that Amanjot gave Pratika her medal as she wasn’t seen wearing it during photoshoot with the Indian PM.

Now, in her recent interview with News18, Pratika Rawal cleared all the speculations and confirmed she was wearing the medal which was given to her by the support. Pratika also confirmed that ICC Chairman Jay Shah has made sure that she will also get her medal and is in talks with the Apex Cricket Council. “Jay Shah texted our manager that I want to make arrangements to get medal for Pratika. So, finally, I now do have my own medal. The first time I opened it up (medal given to her by support staff) and, I looked towards it, I was almost in tears. I’m not a person who cries a lot but that emotion was real, that feeling of join us,” Rawal told CNN News18.
“Jay Shah told us that he is asking the ICC if they can send a medal. So that medal is going to take some while, to reach me. So, one of the support staff gave me their medal to wear for now. Consider that I have my own. So, the medal is on the way," she further added.
