Team India veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are active in ODIs only after retiring from T20Is and Tests. Both stars are aiming to represent India in the ODI World Cup 2027 to be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. Ex-India opener K Srikkanth has shared his views on the future of the two legends. With the domination of T20I in international cricket, ODI matches are played in great numbers nowadays. Noting this fact, Rohit and Virat have to be match-ready to maintain their form until World Cup 2027.
Srikkanth believes both Virat Kohli andRohit Sharma have done a lot for Indian cricket and they should be given the opportunity to serve India in the World Cup 2027. “The very fact that they've said they are available, they both want
to play the 2027 ODI World Cup, hoping that they win the title, having missed it by a whisker in 2023. I'll surely give it to them because they've done so much,” said Srikkanth on his YouTube channel.
The World Cup 1983 champion also advised the Team Indiamanagement to make both legends participate in domestic one-day tournaments such as Vijay Hazare Trophy. “They will have to play all the domestic tournaments across India. You should tell them to start playing the one-day tournaments like Vijay Hazare and other challengers so that they get back into rhythm,” added Srikkanth.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s journey in ODI cricket
Rohit and Virat have played a lot of ODI cricket for India. Rohit broke into ODI cricket in June 2007 while Virat made his 50-over debut in August 2008. In 2011, when India won their second World Cup trophy under MS Dhoni, Kohli was a part of the side while Rohit missed the chance to make it into the 15-member team for the marquee event.
Kohli is in the third spot on the list of most successful ODI batters while Rohit is in the 10th spot. Virat has notched up 14181 runs in 302 matches at an average of 57.88 while Rohit has amassed 11168 runs in 273 games at an average of 48.76.
