On Saturday, October 4, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced India’s T20I and ODI squad for the upcoming white-ball series against Australia, scheduled to start later this month. Notably, the team from Down Under are set to host India in a limited-over series, consisting of three ODIs and five T20Is, starting October 19.
Just days prior to the series, the BCCI named 15-member squad for the ODI series, which sees veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli return to competitive cricket. But in a surprising move, Rohit Sharma, who was seen leading the side to the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 title earlier this year, was snubbed of the captaincy role and saw Shubman Gill take over. Moreover, Shreyas Iyer has been named Shubman’s deputy
in the 50-over format.
Fans slam BCCI for sacking Rohit Sharma of ODI captaincy
The decision of the BCCI to relieve Rohit Sharma from the role hasn’t rested well among the fans. Fans took to social media to lambast at the Indian cricket body while hailing the 38-year-old achievements at helm in the 50-over format. A fan with a username Im_Alogorix wrote, “Won 2 ICC trophies. Player of the Match in the final. Most runs in T20 WC 2024. Still sacked. The most shameful decision in Indian cricket history. SHAME ON @BCCI”.
