Frenkie de Jong, a 28-year-old Dutch international, is a maestro in the midfield for FC Barcelona. Paving his way from the Eredivise side Ajax, Frenkie de Jong has been an instrumental part of the midfield for the Blaugranas, especially under the guidance of Barca’s current manager Hansi Flick.
His performance in the Champions League opener against the Premier League side Newcastle United was one of the best throughout his career. His creativity, vision and overall play-making to create chances for Barcelona’s attack has been simply sensational with several hailing him as the most consistent midfielders in the world. With his current contract at FC Barcelona reportedly set to expire in June 2026, many European clubs are eyeing on a move for the Dutch
midfielder. However, Barcelona’s Sporting Director Deco remains confident that Frenkie de Jong will continue at Barca.
I believe we will reach an agreement: Barca’s Sporting Director on Frenkie de Jong
Deco has been really happy with Frenkie de Jong and during a conversation with Lance, he spoke about the 28-year-old’s future at the club. “We are in conversations. I believe we will reach an agreement. He is an important player for us. I think he is happy at Barcelona, and we are also happy with him. So I don’t think there will be any problem,” Deco said.
The midfield pair of Frenkie de Jong and Pedri has worked wonders for FC Barcelona from the start of the season and Barca will be looking to build upon them in order to achieve their ambitions for this season. Some reports also suggest that Barca want De Jong to continue at the club with lower wages than now. It will be interesting to see if Frenkie de Jong will continue with the Blaugranas after his current contract comes to an end or will he be choosing to start a new chapter with a different club.
