Star Indian batter Shreyas Iyer finally shared first message for the fans after suffering a painful injury while fielding during the third ODI in Sydney on October 25. While taking a catch, Iyer suffered
a serious rib injury and was admitted in the ICU due to internal bleeding caused by a spleen laceration. This also raised concerns among fans regarding Iyer’s recovery who were praying for the 29-year-old.
However, Shreyas Iyer himself took to social media to share positive update regarding his recovery and thanked the fans for showcasing their support in this tough time. Iyer confirmed that he is in recovery and getting better every passing day. "I'm currently in the recovery process and getting better, every passing day. I'm deeply grateful to see all the kind wishes and support I've received - it truly means a lot. Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts,” Iyer wrote on his Instagram story.
Shreyas Iyer to miss South Africa
Although Shreyas Iyer is currently on a recovery mode, he will be out of action for two months. This also means that Iyer will not be a part of the upcoming ODI series against South Africa at home, India are scheduled to host the Proteas for an all-format series including two Test matches, three ODIs and five T20Is starting on November 14. However, Iyer will not be a part of the ODI series due to a rib injury.
Shreyas Iyer is expected to return in action in January 2026 and can be seen playing in the ODI series against New Zealand at home. “Shreyas is much, much, much better. His recovery has been much faster than what the doctor expected. I’m in regular touch with Dr Rizwan (Khan, Indian team doctor). Normally, he should take six to eight weeks (to recover completely), but you can expect a surprise from him because he may recover much earlier,” BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said on Iyer’s return as quoted in Times Now..
