Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has taken a dig at Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta, saying that any title win by the Gunners will be due to money not because of their diligence. Guardiola asserted that his rival teams Arsenal and Liverpool are treated differently when it comes to spending. In the latest window, Liverpool splurged around 440 million pounds while Arsenal bought players worth 250 million pounds. Noting these facts, Guardiola has claimed if either of the two clubs win the title, the credit should be gone to the spending done by both sides instead of praising the coaching prowess and quality of players.
Before City’s clash against Arsenalon Sunday, September 21, Guardiola attended a presser and took a jibe at Arsenal and Liverpool.
“Only I want to say to my friend Mikel Arteta, if he wins the title it will be just because he spent, not because he worked a lot or his players. It's like Liverpool. If Arne (Slot) wins again, it will be because he spent a lot of money. Right? Because it's not just Man City that happened, right? So for all of them. All I can say is they have been wise. They spent what they believe they can do, you know, to compete against the best teams in the Premier League and Europe and they've reached that level,” said Guardiola.
