The Day 3 of the World Athletics Championships 2025 in Tokyo has seen some exciting action on the field thus far on Monday, September 15. However, the Indian contingent is seen disappointed as their star athletes in the women's 3000m steeplechase Parul Chaudhary and Ankita Dhyani have failed to progress into the final round, getting eliminated in the heats.
Parul Chaudhary, who is the National record holder for India, was seen competing in Heat 2, where she finished ninth and ended up in 20th place overall with a time of 9:22.24. This time was 10 seconds more than her personal best which left her disappointed. Chaudhary was putting up a tough fight till the 2000m mark, however, she could not keep up her speed until the 3k mark.
Ankita Dhyani's recorded time was the slowest in heats among overall 35 runners
Parul impressed
everyone with her performance in the previous edition of the World Athletics Championships as she finished 11th overall and qualified for the finals as she achieved a national record time. Only the top five from each of the three heats progressed to the next round which is why Parul’s chance of glory at the World Athletics Championships officially came to an end. The same happened with Ankita Dhyani who clocked 10:03.22 and finished in 11th position in the Heat 1.
Among the 35 athletes in the overall heats, Ankita’s time was the slowest as she failed to qualify for the finals. Uganda’s Peruth Chemutai topped the heats with a sensational time of 9:07.68, while USA’s Angelina Napoleon was the last runner to progress into the finals with a time of 9:18.03. Indian runners Parul and Ankita will be looking forward to improving themselves and prove their worth in the next edition of the World Athletics Championships.
