England pacer Sam Curran became just the second England bowler to claim a hat-trick in T20Is. In the first T20I match between Sri Lanka and England, Sam Curran picked up a hat-trick in the 16th over of
the match. In the third ball of the 16th over, Sam Curran dismissed Dasun Shanaka for 20 runs when he was caught by Harry Brook. Then in the fourth ball he got the wicket of Maheesh Theekshana and in the last ball of the over, Sam Curran cleaned up Matheesha Pathirana to complete the hat-trick. It was a day of two halves for Sam Curran as he got hit in the starting overs but made a comeback and bowled really well in the death overs. Watch his hat-trick here.
He showcased his death bowling skills in the 17-over per side game to become only the second England bowler to account for a hat-trick in the shortest format of the game. Sri Lanka were batting first and were bowled out for just 133 in 16.2 overs. The top three batters got starts with Nissanka scoring 20, Kamila Mishara getting 16 and Kusal Mendis score 37 but no one could go on and convert it to a big score. Sri Lanka were in dominant position at 76/2 in 7 overs but then collapsed to 98/5 and in the end were bowled out for 133. Sam Curran picked up a hat-trick which was the highlight for the English bowlers. Adil Rashid also picked up three wickets while Jamie Overton took two wickets.
It was a below par total and in rely, England raced away to 87/3 and need just run a ball from here. This is a three match T20I series and Sri Lanka are yet to announce their squad for the WT20 and this performance was disappointing from them. This series acts as a good preparation for the upcoming WT20. Sam Curran was the star and it was a memorable night for him. He finished the game with figures of 3/38 in 3 overs.
