Early on Tuesday, October 14, the Indian cricket team completed a 2-0 clean sweep against West Indies as they went on to chase the 121-run target, set by West Indies after being enforced a follow-on at
the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Walking out to bat on the final day of the second Test with only 58 runs needed to win, KL Rahul’s unbeaten 58 guided the side home, registering their first Test series win at home under Shubman Gill’s captaincy.
For the unversed, Indian skipper Shubman Gill won the toss and decided to bat first. On the back of centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal (175) and Shubman Gill (129*) and crucial knocks from Sai Sudharshan (87). Nitish Kumar Reddy (43) and Dhruv Jurel (44), India declared after scoring 518 runs on the board at the loss of five wickets. With a mammoth 518 runs on the board, West Indies began their innings with John Campbell and Tagenarine Chanderpaul looking good.
However, their partnership could not last long as a quick catch at short leg by Sai Sudharsan dismissed Campbell. Although, Alick Athanaze did play a gritty 41-run knock, but wickets fell at brisk rate, eventually the visitors getting bundled out at 248 in 81.5 over, courtesy a five-wicket haul from Kuldeep Yadav and key three wickets from Ravindra Jadeja.

Still trailing India by 270 runs, India enforced a follow-on, which indeed proved to be a changing moment in the match. The Windies opener came out good this time as John Campbell (115) went on to score his maiden Test century, followed by a hundred from Shai Hope (103). Skipper Roston Chase (40) and Justin Greaves (50*) also put up fighting knocks as West Indies posted a 121-run lead.
In reply, the Men in Blue kickstarted their second innings in the final session on Day 4 with KL Rahul once again looking good. However, the home side lost Jaiswal early, Sai Sudharsan took looked good, but lost his wicket getting caught at first slip, KL Rahul’s unbeaten 58 guided the side to victory with seven wickets left. With this convincing win, India claimed their first Test series win at home under Shubman Gill’s captaincy. Moreover, India have now registered most consecutive Test series wins against West Indies, which is joint-most with South Africa.
