England Women defeated New Zealand Women by eight wickets in their final league of the ongoing Women’s Cricket World Cup at ACA-VDCA International Cricket Stadium on Saturday, October 25. It also turned
out to be an emotional moment for New Zealand captain Sophie Devineas it became her last ODI match for her country. New Zealand couldn’t qualify for the semi-final of the 2025 Women’s World Cup and finished at sixth place with just one win.
Now, the final match against England also ended New Zealand’s campaign in the ongoing Women’s World Cup. With this, Sophie Devine also played the last international game of her career. Ahead of the World Cup, Devine announced that this would be her final outing in ODI cricket. After the match was over, the players from both England and New Zealand gave a Guard of Honour to Sophie Devine as the Kiwi skipper bid an emotional farewell to her international cricket career.

Sophie Devine’s international career
Talking about Sophie Devine, she made her international debut in a T20I match against Australia Women in Brisbane on October 18, 2006. Since then, she went on to play 159 ODIs and 146 T20I matches in her 19-year international career. Devine has scored 4279 runs from 159 matches in ODIs at an average of 32.66 along with nine hundred and 18 fifties.
Talking about her T20I career, Sophie amassed 3431 runs in 146 matches at an average of 28.12 with one hundred and 21 half-centuries. In her captaincy, New Zealand also clinched their maiden T20 World Cup title in 2024 defeating South Africa in the final in Dubai.
