The reigning champions of the Indian Super League (ISL), Mohun Bagan have suspended all their football activities on Saturday, November 8. The reason for the suspension of the activities is AIFF’s (All
India Football Federation) failure to receive a single bid for the commercial rights of the ISL which has raised uncertainty over the future of the league.
AIFF confirmed that they have delayed the upcoming season of the ISL and are yet to get a single commercial right for the football league. After that, the champions of ISL 2024-25 Mohun Bagan decided to halt their football activities and review contract of players and support staff next month. "Our players were to assemble on Monday for the camp from next day. But now our camp has been suspended indefinitely till there is clarity on the Indian Super League,” an official from the Mohun Bagan told PTI.
"Now that the season is delayed with uncertainty on ISL, we will review all contracts next month. But we have not stopped anybody's salary, everyone is paid,” he further added.
East Bengal FC seek help from BCCI after AIFF fails to get commercial rights for ISL
With the future of India football in disarray as AIFF failed to get a bid for ISL commercial rights, East Bengal FC have urged the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) to step in to the matter and provide financial support to conduct the football league successfully. Debabrata Sarkar, who is a senior executive committee member in East Bengal FC, requested the Indian cricket board to sponsor Indian football for the next four-five years.
“My appeal is if the BCCI gets ready to sponsor Indian football for at least four-five years, for them Rs 100–150 Crore is not much. If they take responsibility, Indian football can move forward in a better way. It can’t get better than this,” Debabrata Sarkar told PTI.
