Mithun Manhas, the former captain of Delhi, who played in the Indian domestic cricket for nearly two decades, is set to become the new Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President after he filed the nomination on Sunday, September 21. It is understood that the 45-year-old is the solitary name in the reckoning for the coveted post, and the last day of withdrawing the nomination is Tuesday, September 23, just five days before the election will take place at the BCCI Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Mumbai.
With this latest development, the name of Mithun Manhas has gone viral on various social media platforms, and the fans are more than interested in learning about his cricketing journey. While the Jammu-born cricketer had a fantastic
career at the Indian domestic level for Delhi, sharing the dressing room with the likes of Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli, and Ashish Nehra, among others, he wasn’t able to play for India in any of the three formats.
Known to be an accumulator of runs at the domestic level, Mithun Manhas did play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for three different teams, namely Delhi Capitals (then called Delhi Daredevils), Pune Warriors India (now defunct), and Chennai Super Kings. In the inaugural season of the IPL in 2008 with Delhi Capitals, Mithun Manhas got a chance to be in the playing XI for one match, but he didn’t bat.

In the next two seasons of the IPL, Mithun Manhas got ample opportunities to play for DC, registering his career best stats in the 2010 campaign with 157 runs at an average of 39.25, but his strike rate was just 105.36. Pune Warriors India signed him before the IPL 2011 season, and while his first season with them wasn’t the best, he scored 120 runs in the next campaign at an average of 30 and a strike-rate of 125, showcasing some of best qualities as a middle order batter in T20 cricket.

After playing just three matches in the 2013 season for PWI, Mithun Manhas signed with Chennai Super Kings for the IPL 2014, getting to make 12 appearances for them, but he didn’t get much chance to bat, scoring just 35 runs in five innings. It ended up being the seventh and last season of the IPL with the CSK for the Jammu-born batter before he quietly shifted into coaching and administration roles in cricket upon taking retirement from playing in 2017.
It will be quite interesting to see if Mithun Manhas does indeed become the new BCCI President next weekend, and what will be the impact of the AGM on Indian cricket in times to come.
