It was last month when India defeated Pakistan by five wickets in the final of the Asia Cup 2025, played in T20I format, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Following the conclusion of a last over
thriller, the Indian cricket team refused to collect the trophy from Pakistan Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief, due to strained Indo-Pak political relationship after border skirmish earlier this year.
Following that, Mohsin Naqvi reportedly felt offended by the stance of the Indian cricket team, which led to him instructing an ACC official to remove the Asia Cup trophy from the presentation area before taking it in his possession at the governing body’s Dubai office. It led to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials going back-and-forth with the ACC and Mohsin Naqvi to give them the Asia Cup trophy which their team rightfully won but the status hasn’t changed in over a month.
Yes, we are a little bit unhappy with the way the trophy has not been given to us even after a month: Devajit Saikia
In a latest report on the matter published in India Today, the BCCI is remaining hopeful that Mohsin Naqvi will give them the Asia Cup trophy within “a day or two”. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia’s latest comments on the situation read, as per the PTI News agency, “Yes, we are a little bit unhappy with the way the trophy has not been given to us even after a month,” apart from confirming that they will raise the matter during the International Cricket Council (ICC) quarterly meeting on November 4 if it isn’t resolved by then.
Devajit Saikia also gave the confirmation about the BCCI sending a formal request in a letter to the ACC to hand over the Asia Cup trophy to them. He was quoted as saying, “We are pursuing the matter. About 10 days ago, we also wrote a letter to the chairman of the ACC, but there has been no change in their position. They are still keeping the trophy in their custody, but we hope it will reach us in a day or two at the BCCI office in Mumbai.”
The response from Mohsin Naqvi was in his letter emphatic, staying true to his stance by asking the representatives of the Indian cricket team to come visit the ACC office in Dubai to collect the trophy in person apart from showing his willingness to host a handover ceremony as well.
