Englandoff-spinner Will Jacks has revealed how Brendon McCullum’s aggressive mindset benefits the team and players. Jacks has won a place in England’s squad for the Ashes 2025/26 to be played from November 21, 2025 to January 8, 2026. His responsibility will be to support Shoaib Bashir to reinforce England’s spin-bowling unit. If Jacks gets a chance in England’s playing XI against Australia, he will play his first Test after three years. In December 2022, the 26-year-old played his last Test against Pakistan in Multan.
After getting picked up for the Ashes series, the spinner spoke to BBC Radio 5 Live and revealed that the intrepid leadership of Stokes and MCCullum instills confidence in the team to take on any opponent. “The leadership group
makes you feel like you can take anyone on. For a debutant, that instantly builds your confidence and makes you feel you belong. Stokes leads by example; he would never ask you to do anything he wouldn’t do himself, which makes him really easy to follow,” remarkedWill Jacks.
Brendon McCullum informed Will Jacks about his selection in England’s Ashes 2025/26 squad
Will Jacks said it was England head coach Brendon McCullum, who informed him about his selection in the Ashes 2025/26 squad. “Baz (McCullum) called me for a casual chat and then just dropped the news, it completely took me by surprise and definitely brightened my morning. I’m happy to play whatever role the team needs, as I have in the white-ball squad. Being part of the Test side and seeing how Stokes leads the team was a fantastic experience, and I’m looking forward to it again.” added Jacks.
England will start their campaign in the Ashes 2025/26 at the Optus Stadium, where the opening Test will be held from November 21. The English side will aim to start their journey with a victory in Perth to accomplish their objective of winning the Test series on Aussie soil after 15 years.
