Former Australia opener David Warner has backed Steven Smith to stand tall against England in the upcoming The Ashes2025/26. In Australian conditions, Steven Smith has played 18 Tests against England, in which he notched up 1417 runs with five fifties and five hundreds in 30 innings at an average of 54.50. He played an instrumental role in Australia’ 4-0 win in the Ashes 2017/18. With 687 runs in seven innings of five games, he scored 687 runs with three centuries and two fifties, he ended the series as the highest run-getter in the competition.
His role will be vital for Australia to defend the urn. In regular skipper Pat Cummins’ absence, he will be expected to handle the captaincy mantle effectively in the opening Test to be played at the Optus Stadium from November 21.
