On this day January 23,2018: England U19 go from 57/0 to 96 all-out chasing a target of 127 against Australia U19. It was one of the most remarkable comeback in cricket as Australia claimed victory from jaws of defeat. This happened in the 2018 Under 19 World Cup. Australia Under 19 were batting first and had a bad start as they were reduced to 59/5. Jason Sangha played beautifully and was and was the lone warrior and his half -century helped Australia post a total of 127 as they were all-out in 33.3 overs. Ethan Bamber and Pennington were lethal with the new ball picking up three wickets each while spinner Will Jacks also scalped three wickets as England Under 19 were right on top.
It seemed a very easy target to chase and England Under 19 were
heavy favorites to win the match. English opener Tom Banton looked in great touch and England openers got off to a perfect start. They were 47/0 and had all ten wickets in hand with only 80 runs left to seal the match. Then came in the leg-spinner Llyod Pope who turned the match on its head. The 18-year-old began with two wickets in back-to-back deliveries in the eighth over. He had Liam Banks stumped before bowling Harry Brook for a golden duck to leave England 2/47. Pope got his third wicket as he dismissed Will Jacks for one, in his third over to make it 3/51 and Australia were starting to just feel a bit of miracle happening.
Tom Banton continued his glorious form and completed his half-century as England U19 were 3/67 from 13 over in chase. Pope picked up few more wickets two overs later, removing Fin Trenouth for five to leave England needing 49 runs with five wickets in hand. He then rattled the tail-enders as Pope finished with 8 wickets in his 9 overs and England were bowled out for 96. Australia Under 19 won the match by 31 runs and it was a miracle from Llyod Pope who was the key architect in this win.
