With the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 underway across India and Sri Lanka, in the third match, Bangladesh Women defeated Pakistan Women by seven-wicket margin at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. For the unversed, Pakistan Women won the toss and elected to bat first, but they did not get the start that was expected as they were reduced to 129/10 in 38.3 overs.
In reply, on the back of an unbeaten 54 from Rubya Haider, the Bangladesh Women sealed the deal in 31.1 overs, getting their first win to begin the campaign. During Pakistan Women’s batting innings, the team had their ebbs and flows, but the most-talked about moment came in the 35th over.
Nashra Sandu becomes only second player in Women's World Cup history to get hit wicket out
Coming out to bat after Natalia Pervaiz was dismissed by a combined effort from Nigar Sultana
and Shorna Akter, Nashra Sandhu’s stay was not long-lived in the middle. In the 35th over, Sandhu was forced to walk back to the pavilion, getting hit wicket out. Shorna Akter, who came out to bowl her second over, bowled a flatter one. In the process, Nashra Sandhu poked it but failed to connect to the ball.
But in this, she somehow managed to hit the stumps, getting hit wicket and Pakistan Women going nine down. With this, Nashra Sandhu became just the second player in Women’s World Cup history to be dismissed hit wicket. The first instance of this came 52 years ago when Lynette Smith fell victim to unusual mode of dismissal.
However, the Women in Green will look to reassemble themselves after that defeat and hope to come out good when they face India Women in their next match at the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 on October 5. Bangladesh Women, on the other hand, will take on England Women at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on October 7.
